Inspired by the past : Built for the future

Public EngagementCove West : Aberdeen

Planning starts with you!

Work began in 2008 with the public and other stakeholders creating a Masterplan for Cove. Several workshops culminated in the production of a Cove Charette Report which was adopted by Aberdeen City Council in 2010 as supplementary planning guidance, which means that any developer that visits Cove has to adhere to the desires of the local community as enshrined in the Report.

In September 2010 we came back to the public and held a Modelling Workshop in the Altens Community Centre which was attended by over 150 people. We built a 3D model of the main area, including the new high street, out of wooden block pieces to help people visualise how the new development will look in it's existing landscape. We also had an artist on hand to create the visuals you see on this site, as the designs were refined.

You can see more detail on this session on the two downloadable PDFs on this page.

What Next?

After many discussions with the current residents of Cove, the Council and various other stakeholders, at the initial scoping workshop in April 2008, the Enquiry by Design in May 2008, the site design workshop and first modelling workshop in September 2008 and the second modelling and plan refinement workshop in September 2010, we are now drawing together our planning submission. This will be submitted in December 2010 and we will keep you up to date on its progress...

Information on the full engagement process can be seen in the downloadable newsletter PDF at the bottom of this page.
