Aberfell First-Time Buyer Shares Serendipitous Journey to Finding Home

26th Sept, 2024

"As a first time buyer it can be daunting but Andrea really made it feel less scary - I feel very lucky!"

When Rosie landed her dream job with Guidedogs in Forfar she started her property search. As a first time buyer moving from Norfolk with her beautiful dog Nova, Rosie stumbled upon our stunning Aberfell development in Arbroath and the rest is history. Hear more about her journey to becoming a home owner with Scotia Homes.

What made you decide to move to Arbroath?

“I’ve always wanted to work with Guide Dogs and I’d basically been applying all over the country and finally got accepted for a role in Forfar. After accepting the role I needed to find somewhere to live fairly quickly. I was looking at rental places but soon realized they weren’t going to work and I’d probably be better buying, as I had a bit of money saved. It feels like it’s meant to be! We came down to the coast for the day and whilst driving about we saw the development. We pulled in, had a look around and viewed the Watt house type. I wasn't sure if all the numbers would work so Andrea put us in touch with a great Mortgage Advisor and it was a done deal in 6 weeks! My commute is also super easy and I’m there in less than 25 minutes.

What attracted you to Scotia Homes and in particular, the Watt housetype?

“I didn’t need a massive house just being myself but on walking in to the Watt house type I was blown away by just the openness of the space and the amount of light! The plot I went for has nothing in front of it and has a great size of rear garden for Nova. I really like how open plan and lovely it is as I don’t like feeling closed in, so when I saw inside I was like “oh my gosh!”. It feels so big and the storage space is incredible.”

What’s your favourite feature of your new home?

“I just love the amount of light and space I have! All the windows are large and I’ve really got room to grow into it.

How was your experience reserving your new home and was there anything that stood out about the process?

I just found the whole process really well organised. The communication between everyone made it go so smoothly, especially considering the speed of the whole process. Andrea walked me through the entire process and always answered any questions I had. As a first time buyer it can be daunting but she really made it feel less scary - I feel very lucky! She always stayed in contact with me just to see how I was getting on which meant I felt extremely supported from beginning to end.”

Favourite thing about Arbroath and what makes it a great place to live?

Where I lived in Norfolk I was surrounded by fields and I feel that where the development is there’s a great compromise, as I’m close to shops for all my essentials but there’s great countryside walks right on my doorstep. Living by myself it wouldn’t have been practical to be completely isolated and this just ticks both those boxes for me and Nova. I’ve joined the local gym which is a couple of minutes away in the car but also easy to walk to. I love being so close to the coast as Nova loves a sandy walk! My parents love it here and my Dad would actually move up in a heartbeat! He’s staying with me just now and helping with some jobs in the garden which is a great help.”

Any tips for helping with a big move?

“Family! My parents helped me by driving the van with all my stuff up the country. I also found just asking all the questions that came into my head was good as it stopped me worrying.”

What has the aftercare been like since moving in?

"Again, the communication between site and the whole team is really good. It’s also great that I can leave a spare key with Andrea so the guys from Site can let themselves in as I’m keen to not take days off work so soon after starting. That’s been really helpful. Everything has just fitted into place since moving in."
