Lesley Goes the Distance – On and Off the Clock

29th Sept, 2025

At Scotia Homes, our people are at the heart of everything we do, and it's no surprise that the drive, determination, and passion our team brings to work every day extends far beyond the office.

This month, we're shining a light on Lesley, a valued member of our team who took on the incredible challenge of running a marathon, not for charity this time but as a deeply personal goal.

“This one is more of a personal challenge for me,” Lesley says. “I run to stay active and fit, but I also want to show my children the value of perseverance and stepping outside your comfort zone. If their mum can still run marathons, then they can believe they’re capable of anything.”

Training Through the Tough Bits

Balancing training with a busy work and family life hasn’t been easy — especially with two children and a demanding job — but Lesley’s determination has kept her going.

“Training has gone well overall, though the biggest challenge has definitely been finding the time,” she explains. “Most of my long runs happen at unsocial hours, very early on a Saturday or Sunday morning.”

Earlier this year, Lesley completed her first ultra-marathon, the Kirkhill 8, and also tackled her first strength-based run at the Hybrid Event, both of which helped lay the foundation for her current marathon prep.

Finding Focus — and Four-Legged Friends

Running, for Lesley, is more than just physical activity — it’s a mental reset.

“As a busy working mum of two, running has become both an outlet and a form of escapism. It gives me the space to switch off, de-stress, and recharge.”

Sometimes, it’s solo therapy. Other times, it’s a social experience — whether catching up with friends on a long weekend run, or training alongside her high-energy flat-coated retriever (who’s yet to be tired out!).

The Finish Line

As for her marathon time goal?

“I’m aiming to finish around the 4-hour mark — but honestly, I’ll just be happy to cross the finish line!”

We couldn’t be prouder of Lesley’s commitment, finishing with an incredible time of 3 hours and 55 minutes, and we hope her story inspires others in the team and beyond.

Final Words of Wisdom

“I’d encourage anyone thinking about taking up running to just give it a try,” she adds. “Whether it’s completing your first 5K or tackling a marathon, the sense of achievement is always worth it.”

Lesley, we’re cheering you on every step of the way.
